A staff clock in app with GPS, built for New Zealand factories and sites

CLTimeTracker is the timesheet app for factory staff and installers. Clock in and out from the phone, get matched to the job site you are standing on, request leave, and keep working when there is no signal.

CLTimeTracker is one of the back office tools, and the one your staff hold rather than your office. It is how hours reach Time & attendance, which is where the office corrects them and the payroll export comes from.

Who it is for

For New Zealand manufacturers and trades whose staff split their day between the factory and customers’ sites, and whose payroll still starts with a paper timesheet or a text message. The app is for the staff; the manager’s view lives in the admin app on the desk.

What the app does

Clock in and out from the phone

One tap to start the day and one to end it. Each clock-in and clock-out records the time and the place it happened, and that is the only location the app records today.

Geofenced time tracking to the job site

A clock-in is matched to the nearest active job whose site is within the radius your business sets, so a fitter who arrives at 14 Kauri Street is on that job without picking anything. Staff never choose a job from a list; if no site is close enough the entry stays untagged for the office to place, and a clock-out gets a second chance to match.

Leave requests

Ask for a day or part of a day off, see the balance, and see New Zealand public holidays already marked. The manager approves or declines in the admin app and the answer shows in the app.

Works without signal

Clock-ins, clock-outs and edits made with no coverage are queued on the phone and sent when it reconnects, in order, so a basement or a rural site does not cost anyone their hours.

Who is on the clock

The Team tab shows everyone who is clocked in right now and who is on leave. Managers get the same picture in the admin app, along with the time entries themselves, which they can correct, and a payroll export for the period.

Coming next

Two additions are planned and not yet in the app you can install today.

  • Location sharing while clocked in

If the business switches it on, the app will share a location roughly every ten minutes between clock-in and clock-out, and at no other time. Managers will see it on a map in the admin app. Location pings will be purged on a schedule the business sets.

  • Push notifications

A manager will be able to get a notification when someone clocks in or out. Until then, the live team view in the admin app is the place to look.

Questions we get asked

How do I get the app?

Your employer sets up your account. On iPhone the app is distributed through TestFlight while it is in testing, with an App Store listing to follow. On Android your employer gives you an APK to install directly, with a Google Play listing to follow. The support page has the steps.

Does it track me when I am not working?

No. Today the app records a location only at the moment you clock in or out. The planned location sharing runs only between clock-in and clock-out, only if your employer switches it on, and stops the moment you clock out.

Can I pick which job I am on?

No, and that is deliberate. Jobs are attributed from where you clock in, and the office can correct an entry afterwards. It keeps the app to one tap and keeps the timesheet honest.

What happens to my hours if my phone has no signal?

The app stores the clock-in or clock-out on the phone and sends it as soon as it has a connection again. Your hours are counted from the time you tapped, not the time the phone reconnected.

We set it up with you

We load your staff and job sites, set the site radius, help everyone install the app on day one, and check the first payroll export with you.
